Church Steeple Project

Since I started here over 3 years ago, I have heard about our decaying church steeple and that we had to lower the bell because its weight was unsafe in the bell tower. As you know, the church is a source of revenue for the society through its weddings. The need to keep this building in repair is very important. This year I have made the steeple one of my missions to have repaired. In spring I received quotes to repair the steeple and the lowest bid was $8,000. To date, we have raised $5,000 for the steeple project. This puts us $3,000 short of the amount needed.

Adams House Roof

A project we didn’t plan for this year is replacing the roof on the Adams House. For those not familiar with the Adams House, it is the house to the right when you come in the parking lot. It formerly housed the Resource Center which has now moved to the Library in the Blakely Museum. Our education department and traveling trunks, as well as our new wedding coordinator, program director, and office manager’s offices now are located in the Adams House. We also rent the Adams House for weddings, where the bridal party can change and get ready. The roof started leaking this spring and has progressively gotten worse. The lowest estimate received was $11,000. We have a good start of $8,000 and need to raise the final $3,000 for the project.

Donations already received for other projects cannot be transferred and apply exclusively for the project specified by donors.

I would like to ask for any monetary assistance our members could offer for these projects. A plaque will be placed in each building listing individuals/businesses donating an amount of $500 or larger. All donors will be listed in the next newsletter. Donations can be made payable to “Fond du Lac County Historical Society” and mailed to FCHS, PO Box 1284, Fond du Lac WI 54936-1284. Please indicate what project you wish to support.
