  • A Photographer's History Of Fond du Lac County.

    by by Ray Thornton

The more recent photos in this volume may inspire some memories, such as my 1956 and 1976 photo tours of Main Street. The early photos reveal some local history including the street numbering system which changed shortly after 1900. This book begins, as did my first book, with a trip from South Main Street, to the lakefront. Many churches, educational buildings and historical events are recorded. At this time of this printing, considerable changes are occurring on the local scene. It is my desire that through photography we preserve some of this history.

To the sturdy men and women who laid the foundation for our city, we dedicate this book. Today men and women at their employment and at their leisure move about in such a great rush that they have little time for studying lengthy accounts of the history and make-up of their own city, no matter how interesting, how important or how dramatic it might be.

  • History By The Lake: Studies in the History of Fond du Lac and the Lake Winnebago Region

by Clarence B. Davis/ Marian College Press

This volume is the second in a series of occasional papers devoted to the study of the local history of the Fond du Lac and Lake Winnebago region. The earlier volume, Source of the Lake: 150 Years of History in Fond du Lac, concentrated exclusively on Fond du Lac, because it was presented as a part of a sesquicentennial celebration. The present volume incorporates some essays that did not fit that earlier format as well as others completed since it appeared, and so the new book is cast in terms of broader Lake Winnebago region of which Fond du Lac is an important part.
